NOx
Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) Emissions
What Revenue needs and where to find reliable NOx figures for your import.
Since 1 January 2020, a NOx component is part of VRT for Category A vehicles (excluding pure electrics but including hybrids). You’ll need to provide a NOx figure at registration, or a default cap will apply.
Sources for NOx values
- New vehicles: Certificate of Conformity (CoC) — obtain from the seller or manufacturer. Upload the eCoC before your inspection.
- Used vehicles: Foreign Registration Certificate may include NOx (e.g., UK V5C, box V3 for older docs). If missing, contact a main dealer or manufacturer for the CoC.
- Japanese imports: Figures may be available from the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.
Revenue can accept official written confirmation of NOx from the manufacturer or a statutory authority. If no figure can be provided, a flat charge applies.
Handy note
If your document shows NOx in g/km, multiply by 1,000 to convert to mg/km for the VRT calculation.
