Additional VRT (Late Registration)
What happens if you miss the 30‑day window — and how the daily charge is calculated.
Vehicles must be registered within 30 days of first entry to the State. If you miss this window, an Additional VRT charge is added to your VRT liability.
How the charge is calculated
The additional charge is a simple daily rate: 0.1% of the total VRT due for every day after the 30‑day limit. It’s added to your main VRT amount at registration.
Example
If your total VRT due is €3,500 and registration is 15 days late, the additional VRT is 3,500 × 0.1% × 15 = €52.50, bringing the payable total to €3,552.50.
Tip for peace of mind: book your NCTS registration inspection as soon as the vehicle arrives to avoid creeping daily charges.
